In a historic move, customers of the Post Office will now, for the first time in its extensive 360-year history, have the option to select alternative parcel carriers at branch counters. This marks a significant and unprecedented change for the Post Office and its customers.
The new service will commence at specific branches just in time for the busy Christmas delivery season. This step underscores the Post Office’s commitment to diversification, as it transforms into a comprehensive destination for customers. It offers a one-stop hub where you can conveniently access a variety of delivery carriers, all conveniently available under one roof.
At selected branches, Post Office customers will now have the option to approach the counter and decide to send their parcels through DPD or Evri, alongside the services already in place.
Nick Read, the Chief Executive of the Post Office, expressed, “We are making a fundamental transformation in the Post Office by introducing new mail carriers for over-the-counter transactions, marking a historic first in our 360-year history. This extended partnership with DPD and Evri illustrates our commitment to revolutionize the mail market, providing customers with greater choices and creating more opportunities for postmasters, as we work towards building a Post Office that is well-suited for the future.”
Neill O’Sullivan, the Managing Director of Parcels and Mails at the Post Office, stated, “Post Office is dedicated to innovation in response to evolving customer preferences and the growing competitiveness of the market. Our objective is to provide unmatched access to parcel services, catering to the demands of both businesses and retail customers, not only today but also in the years to come.
“Our new in-branch purchase service exemplifies the Post Office’s evolution as a business, ensuring that our customers can now conveniently access a variety of delivery carriers and services right at their local Post Office.”
“It’s truly exhilarating to partner with major carriers like DPD and Evri as we launch this new service, and we anticipate its expansion across our branches in the coming months.”
